Mask
I’m reading a book names “Unfamiliar Chinese”. This book is basically talking about what many Chinese are doing, and going through during the fast economy developing generation under the cover of a beautiful mask of high GDP. I read three chapters already and I’ll talk about the first chapter today.
The title of first chapter is, “the Prisoners of a Country” and the first part of this chapter is, “the enemies of a Country“. Back in the early 2000s, many Chinese were still super poor. People dreamed to become rich like crazy everyday but they didn’t have money. One lady, named Wu, had an idea of borrowing money from many people which called illegally collected. She collected at least 7.7 billion dollars from 66 different relatives, friends, and underground lenders. However, she successfully won the first bucket of gold when she first borrowed money by opening the first message house in town. Then, she couldn’t stop. She began her loan for a long run though she successfully established the “natural color” group company.
In China, banks won’t lend money to the companies’ funds less than 3000 million dollars. As counting, banks will only lend money to around 15% of medium small companies which mean only 150 companies can have fund shortly from the banks in 1000. Wu only had less than 1000 million, so she had to step on that illegal road to change her life. Wu’s company affected the society big and the government started to pay attention on her and found out that she collected money illegally. What is the meaning of collecting illegally? Borrow money from too many people without paying lenders interests legally. This way can make Wu earn more money than borrow money from banks. She was almost executed by the government not even the court. This event made people angry; the government had to reconsider so she was stayed of executed.
In my opinion, the government should make Wu executed because there were many lenders that couldn’t find out. Plus, illegally collecting money was not murdering, the government shouldn’t make such a big deal to just let Wu become a victim of warning. This event happened; the government should reconsider the law of loan. If the law wasn’t strict like that many people can have better lives than before, isn’t it also benefit the country’s GDP? The government said, the “original color” company has affected the country’s economy, if they lower the loan conditions, how would Wu’s event happen?
The government removed a village right next to my house just because that village made my hometown looked bad. They had “carefully considered” and decided to removed the village and establish a “better village in town” by reforming the village to modern buildings. Although the point maybe good, the money it cost was uncountable and who pay for that, the people. The rich who used their lives to earn more money, the poor who struggle everyday of living, the middle class who might only have money for today’s life and don’t know where to go tomorrow. Although the government gave the villagers better houses than before, many of them have more than one house now, do modern buildings really “make a city look better” than the historical buildings that saved from ancient? Villagers became rich one night by selling their houses. So historical relics became modern buildings, modern buildings became cash, cash makes more poor people, what’s the point? When those lack of educated villagers have money, they want to follow the “world steps”, which is go travel the world. When they go aboard, they still have their bad habits just like in China, and that make Chinese and China look even worse. What’s the point of reforming the village? And the government took most money from rebuilding village so the modern buildings are dangerous to live. Does it mean all the money has been wasted? If yes, why didn’t the government use the money to consolidate the old buildings and use the rest of the money to build more schools for those villages who never even read primary school Chinese books before? (Yes we learned Chinese in China.)
I know monsters are cover by beauties skins but sometimes face lifting is better than make up.
I think there is English translate, if you are interested in this book you can search online or if you think this book will help the other Chinese exchange students, I’ll lend it to them.
